Geography at Willow Brook
At Willow Brook, our Geography curriculum ignites curiosity about the world and inspires pupils to explore the relationship between people, places and environments. Using the Kapow Primary scheme of work, children develop a secure understanding of their local surroundings before expanding their knowledge to the wider world. Through engaging, enquiry-led lessons, pupils learn to ask thoughtful questions, investigate patterns and make connections between physical and human geography.
Our geography curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge and skills progressively, encouraging pupils to revisit and deepen their understanding of place, space and scale. Fieldwork plays a central role in our approach, allowing children to apply what they learn in real-world contexts — from exploring our local area and mapping routes, to investigating rivers, weather and population change.
Through rich discussion, observation and hands-on investigation, pupils become confident geographers who can use maps, atlases, digital tools and data to interpret the world around them. They also learn about pressing global issues such as sustainability, climate change and the importance of protecting our planet for future generations.
At Willow Brook, Geography helps our pupils develop a sense of wonder for the world they live in — understanding not only where places are, but also why they matter and how our actions can make a difference.
